Global Cardboard Challenge

Come celebrate the launch of the Cedar Rapids Kids Calendar at the Global Cardboard Challenge!

We provide all of the materials - cardboard, recyclable items, craft supplies, and tape. You and your family can stop by anytime to build something fun! We've seen kids build robot costumes, motorcycles, air hockey tables, Mars Rover models, and forts. And this is a great opportunity for kids and parents to play together!

Check out more info here: http://cedarrapids.kidscalendar.net/cardboardchallenge

We'll do a showcase of the completed projects and hand out certificates to the kids at 1:45pm, but you are welcome to come and go anytime during the event. Please dress warmly as we'll open up the space and let kids build on the patio and grass, depending on the weather.

This event is co-hosted by the Kids Calendar and Iowa Startup Acceleratorat the new Geonetric building in NewBo.

1 Million Cups: Farm Manuals Fast

  • Iowa City CoLab

Ag Tech comes to 1 Million Cups on Wednesday August 20th in Iowa City. Tyler Finchum, founder of Farm Manuals Fast, will be pitching his company that helps farmers access repair manuals for their machinery.

Whether it is for the tractor or the combine or any of the other implements, eventually a farmer loses the operator's manual for one of their machines. Farm Manuals Fast is there for farmers when this happens. Before Farm Manuals Fast a farmer would have to purchase a reprinted manual taking days or weeks to arrive. Now farmers can download the manual they need directly from the internet and either print it out or view it on their smartphone or tablet.

1 Million Cups: Sweet Raw Joy

See the brand new Vault and Iowa Startup Accelerator this Wednesday as we host the first 1 Million Cups in the new building!

For this event, we'll feature Laurie Moritz and her new company, Sweet Raw Joy.

This event is FREE and starts at 9am. All are welcome!

For Laurie, Sweet Raw Joy was born out of a love for sharing raw dessert creations with friends and family. While thinking that raw food is just about salad and carrot sticks, Laurie set out to dispel the notion that you couldn't have your cake and eat it too.

Being a runner, Laurie was looking for a way to enjoy the sweet things in life without the sugar crash and undoing all of her exercise efforts. She knew there had to be some ‘superfood’ that would power her active lifestyle, while satisfying her craving for rich, delicious desserts.

Sweet Raw Joy features whole, living, vital, nutritionally active nuts, seeds, oils, fruits, and vegetables that actually change the environment of your body; helping to maintain a hydrated, healthy, and balanced body to support total health and repel disease.
