3. Collaboration. Companies that share office space have a tendency to generate ideas for new products or services simply by interacting with one another, says Andy Stoll, -founder of the Vault, a co-working space in downtown Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
“Creativity doesn’t happen in a vacuum. If you’re working alone in your basement, you’re not likely to come up with innovative ideas,” Mr. Stoll says.
Since launching in July, the space has attracted up to 30 people a day, ranging from software developers to engineers, interior decorators and local store owners. Mr. Stoll says the open room, which includes desks and conference tables, allows business owners to “cross-pollinate ideas.”
“Like Apple we’re trying to create a space and culture where innovation flourishes,” Mr. Stoll says.
